The power to improve flows when you embrace a growth mindset. However, there is an unhealthy relationship that we tend to keep with a fixed mindset. Let me explain.

Many of us find it easier to beat ourselves up when we falter while working on a habit we are trying to cultivate or replace. For instance, in 2021, I started working on applying a piece of new knowledge about dental care. Before then, I'd brush and rinse with water and I noticed my breath would go stale when I didn't talk much. However, I learned that when you don't rinse off with water, it extends the time it takes for your breath to go stale. I began practising and I was doing well for a few weeks until my autopilot kicked in and I found myself rinsing again before I remembered that I was trying to build a new habit.

My resolve.

I'm glad I chose the latter. What I found is that every time I defaulted and happily went back in, it fortified my new habit. It's been 3yrs now and I almost can't remember what it feels like brushing like I used to.
